What is audit log?
An audit log is an append-only record of consequential actions — who did what, when, and to which resource. It is written for a reader who does not exist yet, investigating something that has not happened yet.
Append-only is what makes it evidence. A log that can be edited answers no question conclusively, because the absence of a record cannot be distinguished from its deletion.
The actions worth recording are the ones with consequences: keys created and revoked, models deployed and retired, limits changed, data deleted.
